Deadline Changes for W2s, 1099-MISC, and More

The end of 2016 brings deadline changes for W2 and 1099-MISC forms and a new version of the I-9 form. Here are the details you will need to close out the year with peace of mind.

New Deadlines for W2 and 1099-MISC Forms

Beginning with tax year ending 12/31/16, Form W2s are due to the Social Security Administration by January 31, whether they are filed by paper or electronically. Forms 1099-MISC reporting non-employee compensation (box 7) are also due by January 31. Full information about these changes is available on the IRS website.

New Version of the I-9 Form

On November 14, 2016, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services issued a new version of the I-9 form. These changes were implemented to reduce errors and provide greater ease of use when completing the form using a computer. Employers should begin using this new form by January 22, 2017.
